Five easy ways to help keep your website running smoothly
Five things to do right away on your website:
1. Host your site at a WordPress-friendly hosting account that includes up-to-date software (PHP) and SSL. If you host your site at SiteGround, you receive free SSL and the latest version of PHP. Websites that don’t have SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) installed will be flagged by Google with with an “insecure website” message. And outdated PHP (provided by your hosting company) can slow down or even affect the display of your website pages.
2. Check the copyright year in your website footer. If your website footer doesn’t automatically update to the current year, check to make sure you’re using a page builder (I work in Elementor) to make this an automatic annual action.
3. Review your Google Business Profile. Make sure you have a profile or create a new one for your business. This is the easiest way to make sure your business is searchable and it will help potential clients to find you.
4. Add clear “Calls to Action” for visitors. Use buttons and other prompts to make it easy for visitors to contact you, sign up for your newsletter or place an order on your site.
5. Remove unused or out-of-date image files and website plugins from your site. Old, unused elements can slow down your site and make it more vulnerable to hacking.
